オフィスの近くには雑司ヶ谷駅があります。雑司ヶ谷、2013年に副都心線が東横線と繋がったとき、はたしてどう読む駅なんだろう、そんな関心くらいでした。

その後この近所に引っ越してきて、いまではその魅力にすっかりはまっています。

池袋の24時間眠ることのない喧騒を少し抜けるとそこにはアナザーワールドが。池袋駅東口を出て東通りをまだ池袋の気分で歩いていると、夏目漱石や竹久夢二が眠る雑司ヶ谷霊園がひょっこり出てきます。まるで様子が違って少し焦ってしまいます。おいおい賑やかな池袋の繁華街はどこにいったのだろうと、急に気持ちが置いてかれてしまった感じを受けます。

でもご安心を。

その先には昭和の趣を残す商店街、そしていつの時代 もひっそりとみまもってくれている鬼子母神や大鳥神社が囲む、暖かで完璧に美しい黄昏時にカンカンカンと優しく響き渡る都電の踏切警報器の音が近づいてくる、そこはかとないレトロワールドが。ついついビールと焼き鳥が進みます。あぁ今日も自分の影なる努力のおかげで世界が少し良くなった、そんな自分に乾杯🍻！

そんな縁の下の力持ちさんにぴったりな街です。

Zoshigaya, a retro town in Tokyo

Hi, this is Mari Yamazaki, a member of RE/MAX de-Zay, Japan.

Zoshigaya Station (雑司ヶ谷駅) is near our office. When the Fukutoshin Line (副都心線) was built in 2008  and connected to the Toyoko Line in 2013, I was just curious as to how to read the name of the station.

I moved to the neighborhood after that, and now I’m completely captivated by its charm.

If you leave the hustle and bustle of Ikebukuro for a bit, you’ll find yourself in another world. When you’re walking Azuma street around feeling like you’re still in Ikebukuro, Zoshigaya Cemetery suddenly appears, where Mr. Soseki Natsume and Mr. Yumeji Takehisa are buried, and you feel a little uneasy because it looks completely different atmospheres. You will wonder where the bustling Ikebukuro downtown area has gone, and you may also feel like you’ve suddenly been left behind.

But don’t worry.

Beyond that there is a shopping street that retains the atmosphere of the Showa era, and surrounded by Kishimojin and Otori Shrines that have always quietly watched over us. In the warm and perfectly beautiful twilight, the gentle clanging of the Toden railway crossing alarm approaches, creating a faint retro world. You can’t help but eat more beer and yakitori. Ah, today too, the world has become a little better thanks to my unsung efforts. Cheers to myself!

This is the perfect town for such unsung heroes.
